M. Motivating Maturing Teens To Preserve Themselves From Immorality, Proverbs 6:20-7:27
2. Identifying Immoral People And Their Allures
(Proverbs 7:1-27)
  1. Introduction
    1. We learned in our previous lesson that immorality is a big problem in our era, and the temptation for this sin is so strong, Scripture teaches us simply to flee from it (1 Cor. 6:18 with Gen. 39:7-12). Thus, a maturing teen needs to be able to identify immoral people and their lures in order to know when to flee.
    2. Proverbs 7:1-27 provides significant identifying signals about immoral people and their wiles as follows:
  2. Identifying Immoral People And Their Allures, Proverbs 7:1-27.
    1. Immoral people and their wiles contrast with the teaching of one's godly parents, Proverbs 7:1-5.
    2. Immoral people and their wiles contrast with God's fixed moral order, His hakmah, so a maturing teen is to treat Scripture as his beloved spouse and those who veer from it as potentially immoral folk, Pr. 7:4-5.
    3. Immoral people often practice their seductive wiles in known locations, so it is best to identify these locations and avoid them if possible to avoid allurements to commit immorality, Proverbs 7:6-8.
    4. Immoral people practice their seductions under cover from public exposure better to counter their victims' sexual inhibitions, Proverbs 7:9, so maturing teens should avoid being alone with the immoral.
    5. Immoral people act seductively when their victims are most vulnerable to being influenced to them as illustrated in the Proverbs 7:9 evening setting, so maturing teens should be on guard in vulnerable times.
    6. Immoral people often utilize seductive clothing as part of their lure, Proverbs 7:10.
    7. Immoral people are often loud and defiant, so the teen must be wary of such folk, Proverbs 7:11a NIV.
    8. Immoral people tend to wander outside their God-ordained realms of assignment like the woman whose feet did not abide in her house where she was Biblically supposed to function in Proverbs 7:10-12 (with 1 Timothy 5:13-14). Maturing teens should beware of such folk.
    9. Immoral people often make sudden, aggressive physical contact with their victims, Pr. 7:13; Gen. 39:7-12.
    10. Immoral people try to make their victims feel they are special to them in order to seduce them, Prov. 7:15.
    11. Immoral people are often very hypocritical regarding their religious beliefs or practices, Proverbs 7:14-15:
      1. The Proverb 7:14 woman told her victim she had offered peace offerings, so she had a large supply of meat on hand that had to be soon eaten, Ryrie Study Bible, KJV, 1978, ftn. to Prov. 7:14; Lev. 7:12-17.
      2. However, a peace offering could be sacrificed only after one had offered a sin and then a burnt offering to typify respectively cleansing from sin and consecration to God, Bible Know. Com., O. T. , p. 178. Nevertheless, this woman wanted to use her peace offerings to fellowship with her lover in adultery in vast hypocritical conflict with the sin and burnt offerings she had offered to God prior to the peace offerings, and in blatant contradiction of the peace offering's symbol of fellowship with a Holy God!
    12. Immoral people are notoriously sensual both in speech and mental orientation, Proverbs 7:16-18.
    13. Immoral people often lack a sense of accountability to authorities like the woman in Proverbs 7:19-20:
      1. The Proverbs 7 immoral woman tried to persuade her victim to go to bed with her because her husband was away and would not catch them in their lovemaking activity, Proverbs 7:19-20.
      2. However, she was supposed to be submissive to her husband, not to commit adultery with another man, cf. Proverbs 31:10-11; Eph. 5:22. Maturing teens should avoid heeding the allure of such people.
    14. Immoral people often use smooth, persuasive words, Proverbs 7:21 NIV.
    15. Immoral people try to ease their victims' inhibitions against immoral conduct by pressured seductive activity so that their victims impulsively decide to commit immorality, Proverbs 7:21-23.
    16. Immoral people have captivated and tripped up many great people, Pro. 7:24-27. The maturing teen must then realize he, too, is vulnerable to immorality, and so always be on his guard against immoral people.
Lesson: Proverbs 7:1-27 provides extensive information on the characteristics and behavior of immoral people who can seduce the naive to commit the very destructive sin of immorality.

Application: May we heed the instruction of Proverbs 7:1-27 and escape the lures of immoral people.
